With severe hurricanes, increased rainfall intensity, and longer periods of drought, Jamaica has suffered large economic losses as a result of such natural disasters in recent years. Its vulnerability to these climate change impacts has motivated Jamaica to develop a national climate change policy framework. Under the policy, climate resilient action plans are being developed for key economic sectors to help the country meet its national development goals. USAID will support the development of six sector action plans, weaving in ongoing activities on disaster risk reduction, climate-smart agriculture, climate services and land management in targeted rural and urban communities. In 2015, USAID will also launch multi-year clean energy program that will contribute to White House initiatives that promote clean energy and low-carbon economic growth.
