Over 80 percent of Uganda’s population lives in rural areas and depends on rain fed agriculture. Changes in climate, widespread deforestation and a rapid annual population growth rate of 3.03% is resulting in increased food insecurity and instability. To help prepare the agricultural sector to adapt to some of the growing risks from a changing climate, USAID supports Uganda to: improve meteorological data collection, analysis and forecasting; build local research capacity and fund climate-related agricultural research; and deepen district government officials’ understanding of climate change impacts and build their capacity to design and budget responsive action plans.
